A collaborative effort between Shine Collective and the artist.
Making things. Together.

Featured artist #3 Erin Fitzpatrick

Her story: "When I was in high school I was introduced to graffiti. I had a tag. I wrote “Kraze,” with a “K.” I did a piece in a tunnel in the (Baltimore) county somewhere that used this moniker and was accompanied by a character that looked something like a very stoned Arsenio Hall.
Although the Kraze period was short-lived, I continued to retain an interest in public art. I simply thought it was cool that I could put some art somewhere and someone would see it.
The Buddha image was inspired by a show of paper cuttings that were made by a ninety-something-year-old Chinese woman. She made them to decorate the walls of the cave she lived in. I had never seen paper cuttings like this and began to research the traditional craft of paper cutting in Poland and in China. After looking at many flowers, ninjas, roosters, geishas, tigers, horses, and other various flora and fauna, I decided on the Buddha. I did an oil painting of a Buddha and then a drawing from the painting to translate it into the paper-cut style. Since I was definitely not going to go by “Kraze” again, I used the name that I acquired during my tenure as a high school teacher, and the words “Ms Fitz” are spelled across the Buddha's belly."  See more of Erin Fitzpatrick.

Featured artist #2 Seth Adelsberger

His story: A graduate of Towson University, Seth has shown work at Baltimore's CURRENT gallery, the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts and recently at the Beach House release party at G-SPOT. According to Adelsberger, his paintings 'start as a nervous tick: impulsive doodles and haphazard accumulations. From these emerge order and hierarchies and in the end the pieces serve as a way to mark time- or a time.' This limited edition tee was made with Shine Collective especially for the annual MD ART PLACE event 'OUT OF ORDER' (April 11, 2008). This is MAP's free-hanging which allows any artist to hang his/her work within a designated 24 hour period and later auctioned at the event. mdartplace.org.

His shirt: Hand screenprinted teal or purple on 100% cotton American Apparel in new silver for guys and girls. All shirts were donated to the MD Art Place and are available for sale through them.

Featured artist #1 Mike McNeive

His story: Gritty and messy is how Mike likes it. He marks his childhood in Baltimore as the most important influence in the work he makes today. As the first in his family to go to college, his bluecollar roots lay firmly below the surface of the humor and higher visual language he has learned from observation, graphic design and life outside of his former nest. His side projects include a design/illustration, a limited-edition tshirt company called 'Tea and Crumpets' and 3hundred65shirts.com, a daily blog where McNeive challenges himself to wear a different t-shirt everyday for a year in an effort to raise money for Alzheimer's research.

His shirt: Hand screenprinted on 50/50 American Apparel, navy for guys, kelly green for the ladies.

I WANT THIS.
