Designed by Baltimore artist Erin Fitzpatrick for Shine Collective. American Apparel 50/50 blend tee in navy blue with olive screen, hand printed locally by Nick Karvounis.
Artist statement: From the artist: "When I was in high school I was introduced to graffiti. I had a tag. I wrote “Kraze,” with a “K.” I did a piece in a tunnel in the (Baltimore) county somewhere that used this moniker and was accompanied by a character that looked something like a very stoned Arsenio Hall.
Although the Kraze period was short-lived, I continued to retain an interest in public art. I simply thought it was cool that I could put some art somewhere and someone would see it.
The Buddha image was inspired by a show of paper cuttings that were made by a ninety-something-year-old Chinese woman. She made them to decorate the walls of the cave she lived in. I had never seen paper cuttings like this and began to research the traditional craft of paper cutting in Poland and in China. After looking at many flowers, ninjas, roosters, geishas, tigers, horses, and other various flora and fauna, I decided on the Buddha. I did an oil painting of a Buddha and then a drawing from the painting to translate it into the paper-cut style. Since I was definitely not going to go by “Kraze” again, I used the name that I acquired during my tenure as a high school teacher, and the words “Ms Fitz” are spelled across the Buddha's belly."
